The key to tanning was a killer sunburn early in the summer, to darken you up. By mid July we all looked like the Jackson 5. Well, minus the big Afro’s.
OK, maybe some of us still had Afro’s, but my hair was straight, flat & long, like one of the Beatles.
And we loved it and we didn’t die.
Looking back, I am amazed at how broken bones, road rash, and concussions were just taken to be part of growing up.

this kid is clearly no professional. There are no kids on the ground for him to jump.
Our neighborhood record for jumping kids on a bike was 5. We would have gone for six, but someone’s Mom saw us and made us stop.
